There are five functional movements that we all perform multiple times each day: 

  1. Push: opening a door, pushing a shopping cart
  2. Pull: opening a door, working in the yard
  3. Squat: sitting down to and standing up from a chair
  4. Hinge: bending to pick something up
  5. Carry: carrying grocery bags, luggage, or even a child
